I found out a few days ago from Mark Yarm's Everybody Loves Our Town facebook page, that a writer of the Big Bang Theory is creating a sitcom called Smells Like Teen Spirit, which is described as, “The multicamera comedy revolves around an 18-year-old budding entrepreneur who forgoes Harvard and instead opts to launch a multibillion-dollar Internet company from his garage with the assistance of his sister, best friend and his 1990s indie-rock parents.” so instantly I thought of the That 90s Show that I always hoped for, but with good and bad things running through my head. If this does happen, it could mean good things in the media again, but then on the other hand it could be executed poorly with people who don't really "get it" if you know what I mean, or it could still just be looked at as some "nostalgia act" rather than another revolution. I was always on the side of wanting grunge to be popular again, one reason is because I can't STAND the garbage that has been spewed out for the past 14 years in the mainstream, but still I get the "well you don't really get it, your a poser that's just jumping on the bandwagon" side of it as well, even though my official stance is that we desperately need another grunge revolution PRONTO. I do hope something happens, but happens genuinely and true to what it was always about.
On top of that, since creating my facebook page Spread the word of good newer grunge bands, I have noticed that all over the grunge internet world, people seem to be knowing about the bands more and are less quick to say "but I thought grunge is dead" and the like. That is awesome. Right before I started that page, everyone I talked to about the newer grunge bands I knew of had never head of them before, and really hadn't thought of how there would of course be new grunge bands today so they never looked for them. I asked on my page if it helped people find new bands and whatnot, and several people said it did and told which bands and whatnot. That's what I was hoping for. Well I'm glad I could help, though I don't know how far it has actually reached, but now I know I can actually talk to people more about bands like Violent Soho, Nukeateen, Senium, and Noiseheads, which is great. Not to mention tons of the older bands have gotten back together or never broke up. Oh and I made this, and feel free to make your own and share them all over
Oh and I have been thinking recently, big record companies and corporations could TOTALLY cash in now with the "kill pop with something raw" thing like every ebb and flow where there is something overly poppy and polished and then people would want something raw to get rid of it and the bad taste left behind, so now would be the PERFECT time for another grunge revolution, I mean if I were some big wig that just wanted to make money, that's what I would do, so I guess will have to see what happens, but let's hope it is more genuine than some big corporate person trying to cash in on the "pop is dead, long live rock!" trend. Actually, I like that Seattle's GrungeScene on facebook's motto "Kill pop with grunge!" I hope the musicians can somehow get a grass-roots thing going and rise up and burst through the mainstream like Kurt did. Now would be the PERFECT time to flee to Seattle to play some grunge, since it still isn't mainstream anymore so you could get to it before it gets famous, yet something getting rid of pop is bound to happen soon. I'm still waiting to do that myself, See ya up there...
